Aizome is fabric dyed with indigo dye or "Ai" in Japanese. Ai is a dye made from natural organic plants,
originally developed in China. It is one of the earliest dyes known, and is now synthetically made. Today it has
become synonymous with jeans. We offer fabrics and items made from aizome cloth. These products are "Min Gu,
which means "Country Crafts" or local crafts. Some of the designs are made using a dye resistant paste, which is
painted on the fabric to form the negative or white space that becomes the pattern. Some items are "Shibori",
which is a tie-dyed style. Other items are made with "Sashiko" thread, which is the thick white thread used on
aizome to emphasize or create an "outline" pattern often seen in Japanese fabric crafts. We carry the finest
aizome crafts, and we know you will be pleased with the quality and the reasonable price.
